#2. “Wow, arata bine in poze, insa pare a fi un loc periculos.” Nu trebuie sa fie o problema siguranta personala, nu?

#3. “Ori calatoresc la clasa intai, ori deloc!” Off, doar nu te-ai nascut in puf, nu?

#12. “India e o tara cam murdara!

#13. “America! America! America!” Off, mai sunt si alte locuri frumoase in lumea asta!

#11. “Off, nobody in this country speaks English?” Do you really have to be one of those freaks that travel to foreign countries and pretend to speak English at all times?! No, you are the stranger! Be malleable! You have to be the one that compromises!

#12. “India it’s such a dirty country! I won’t visit it again!” It’s not about the dirt! It’s not even about the clean stuff! It’s about the fact that you visited a new country with different customs, stories and history. It may be a mess for you but that doesn’t mean you are right!

>>> CHECK-IN: 10 decembrie 2015 (intr-o seara de joi) @ Teatrul de Vara “Radu Beligan” din Bacau. RAND 21, LOCUL 56.

A murit in 1998, lasand in urma sa marturii muzicale ce apartin genului swing. Concertul sustinut de Horia Brenciu a reinviat glorioasa epoca a muzicii de swing aducand in prim plan un gen care a facut istorie in lumea filmului, a muzicii si, fara indoiala, in inima mea. Piese ca “My way”, “Love and marriage”, “Something stupid”, “Strangers in the night” m-au trimis cu gandul la Tom&Jerry, la coloana sonora a nenumaratelor filme, la serialul “Married with Children aka Familia Bundy” (1987-1997).

De-a lungul spectacolului ce a durat mai bine de 2 ore (start: 19:30), Horia Brenciu si The HB Orchestra Big Band au omagiat si alti artisti ai genului, printre care si Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr, Big Crosby, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Fred Astaire, George Gershwin si chiar al nostru Gica Petrescu.

Cand HB a cantat melodia New York, New York a lui Frank & Nancy Sinatra (fiica lui Frank Sinatra), m-am simtit ca si Carrie Brandshaw din <Sex and the City>.

Unul dintre ele s-a nimerit in mainile lui… Da! Ea a spus DA!

Imbracate in rochii stralucitoare, cele 2 voci aproape ca au ridicat sala in picioare.

In apararea mea, imi uitasem camera foto acasa!

>>> CHECK-IN: 10th of December 2015 (on a thursday night) @ “Radu Beligan” Theater from Bacau. 21st Row, Seat no. 56.

Just to be clear, I never even considered to go to a concert with Horia Brenciu! Besides Untold Festival, Tomorrowland, Wireless Festival, Parov Stelar Band (electro swing), Hurts, Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, Wilkinson, The Weeknd, One Republic, Tinie Tempah and many others I can’t think of right now … I am telling you, Horia Brenciu was not on my list! I received 2 tickets for the tour called  #myway, and my colleagues from the office promised me that we will have fun, that HB rocks!

And they were right! HB really rocks! It was something else! It was… exactly what I needed! A Frank Sinatra Tribute, just to clear my state of mind!

So, “MY WAY” represents a tribute for Frank Sinatra, at exactly 100 years of his birth. Francis Albert aka Frank Sinatra was an American singer and actor, born on 12th of December 1915. He died in 1998, leaving behind many great songs belonging to swing music genre. The concert of Horia Brenciu revived the glory of those years and brought into the spotlight a music genre that made history in the movies, and no doubt, in my heart. Songs like “My way”, “Love and marriage”, “Something stupid”, “Strangers in the night” sent me to the days when I was watching Tom&Jerry, to the music from the TV Series “Married with Children aka Th Bundys” (1987-1997).

During the 2 hour-show (start: 19:30), Horia Brenciu and The HB Orchestra Big Band paid respects to other artists of the music genre, like Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr, Big Crosby, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Fred Astaire, George Gershwin and ours Gica Petrescu. The Romanian artist would have turned this year 100 years from his birth.

When HB interpreted the song New York, New York a lui Frank & Nancy Sinatra (the daughter of Frank Sinatra), I felt just like Carrie Brandshaw from <Sex and the City>. If only I had a Cosmopolitan in my hands!

At some point during the show, the artist got off the stage and gave away some of his albums. One of them got into the hands of… Fabian – one of his fans! He got on the stage along with his girlfriend Andreea, and he proposed to her in front of the entire crowd! Yes! She said YES!

HB continued the show singing with Julie Mayaya (the winner of the second season of “The Voice of Romania”) and Adina Raducan (the winner of the fourth season of “The X Factor”), in which they both had Horia Brenciu as mentor. What incredible voices! They both had shiny dresses, and the crowd was impressed. To be honest, I don’t really watch these TV Shows, but I trully admit their talent, now that I listened them live!

PS: Be indulgent and don’t criticize me too harsh regarding the quality of the images! In my defense, I forgot to bring my camera!

“Don’t let go

Never give up,

It’s such a WONDERFUL LIFE!”

A SE NOTA – N E B U N I A!

  1. Camasa alba si pantaloni negri eleganti (Theo) + camasa alba cu manecile suflecate, pantaloni negri si bretele (Adam).
  2. Maleta neagra, sacou elegant negru si pantaloni negri (Theo) + maleta neagra, vesta neagra si pantaloni negri (Adam).

BUT IT GETS BETTER!

BETTER AND BETTER! Mai toata lumea a plans la piesa asta, inclusiv sora mea Gabriela (Sorry sis, I had to say it!). Versurile in sine te loveau direct in inima.

BETTER THAN LOVE IS … ACTUAL LOVE! Pe parcursul intregii seri, carismaticul Theo a oferit publicului numerosi trandafiri albi, familiari deja in cadrul concertelor Hurts si a multumit publicului in limba romana in repetate randuri.

THE PLAYLIST:Wonderful Life“, “Illuminated”, Stay, “Miracle, Somebody to die for, Sandman, BlindThe Road, “Blood, Tears and Gold, Silver Lining, Unspoken” si Sunday (videoclip filmat in Romania), “Better than love (videoclip filmat in Romania, in care apare si Laura Cosoi) si muuulte altele.

Zic eu!

“Another second in the SUNSHINE,

A decade in the dark taking part in a DREAM.

Have you forgotten what she looks like?

Or do you only SEE what you want to BELIEVE?”

HAPPINESS (2010) & EXILE (2013) are two BRILLIANT music albums! And I really mean it! Each and every song has a special place in my mind and heart! Usually, out of 12 songs from a music album, you don’t really like more than 6 of them, but with Hurts is not the case! I love them all and I take advantage of every 3 minutes in a row, just to listen their songs: in my car, at the gym, in the office!

Therefore, Hurts came back in Romania for the third time, at Romexpo, Bucharest. The concert was scheduled on October 11th, 2013 and Romania was one of the list of the countries where they had “The Exile Tour”. The band has unlimited number of fans, that’s why Theo Hutchcraft and Adam Anderson came in Fratelli Studio (Bucharest, 2011) and in the line-up of Summer Well (Buftea, 2012). 2013 was my year of glory!

The YellLow Band performed at the opening of Hurts, a band I’ve never heard of until then. An electro-pop rhythm caught my attention while I was at the bar (hihi) and I even remembered the beat of Crimson” and Scream”.

Afterwards, Grimus, the band that opened the concerts of famous artists like Placebo (2012) or Red Hot Chilli Peppers (2012) performed for a full hour before Hurts hit the stage. The final song, High brought into the light the beautiful actress Laura Cosoi, the leading role from the video.

At 09:00 PM sharp, the madness began! PLEASE NOTE – M A D N E S S! The two members of the band performed along with the other instrumentalists. The show started with the song Exile, the name of their album. If you remember the specific song, you can even imagine the energy of the crowd. “Exile” is a statement of maturity, where life, death and certain feelings are all-in-one. EVERYTHING IN JUST ONE WORD!

The rhythm of the song got into my veins, and not even the energy drink could do that. Theo was energetic, and Adam had an elegant and quiet figure, as usual. The boys have a particular style, based on simplicity and nothing more. Usually, their outfits are quite simple:

  1. White shirt and black elegant pants (Theo) + white shirt with the sleeves rolled up, black pants and suspenders (Adam).
  2. Black turtleneck, black elegant blazer and black pants (Theo) + black turtleneck, black vest and black pants (Adam).
  3. A Moroccan hairstylist fixes their hair before every show. He is from Manchester, UK and he does it for only 5 pounds. And they are proud of it!

As you already noticed, their favorite colors are black and white, in different combinations. This time was exactly the same! Adam had an outfit ALL BLACK + a trench (sinister, but sexy), Theo – white shirt, black vest, black blazer + a cape (impressive and mysterious). The stage was dramatic, with the name of the band imprinted on the giant black background. Theo’s voice was waaaaaay better than on CD or YouTube, and Adam’s talent playing the piano and the guitar was outstanding.

BUT IT GETS BETTER! The lighting show was pretty violent and I loved it! At some point, Theo got into the mood and “destroyed” (#sexy) the microphone stand on an instrumental rock song. The crowd was amazed, and the moment was as shocking as it can get, also passionate and hot, especially for the girls in the first row who screamed louder than anyone there.

BETTER AND BETTER! Theo had around his neck our flag and performed the song Stay. The crowd wanted more, shouting “one more time” and they even cried on this song, including my sister Gabriela (Sorry sis, I had to say it!). The lyrics were more powerful than never!

BETTER THAN LOVE IS … ACTUAL LOVE! The whole show, Theo threw white roses in the crowd and expressed his gratitude to the audience in our language.

THE PLAYLIST:Wonderful Life“, “Illuminated”, Stay, “Miracle, Somebody to die for, Sandman, BlindThe Road, “Blood, Tears and Gold, Silver Lining, Unspoken” si Sunday (video filmed in Romania), “Better than love (video filmed in Romania, where the star is the actress Laura Cosoi).

<TRUE STORY> Theo and Adam met in 2005 in a nightclub in Manchester. During that night, while they were drunk, they got to know each other and they started to talk about music. Therefore, they decided to form the band Hurts, and I am truly happy for that! Their songs belong to a specific type of music called synthpop and they are intense, impressive, quite charming, and the videos are emotional and smart, from a different point of view, not the one you can predict! Either way, the future songs need a new “depression”, just to be more brilliant than the ones they already have. As I would say!

ATENA, MALIA, CHANIA, RETHYMNO, HERAKLION, HERSONISSOS, AGIOS NIKOLAOS, IERAPETRA, SITIA…you name it! Been there, done that! (foto Crete Travel).

Le-am numit pe toate, nu-i asa?

Initial, am aplicat pentru un job in America prin programul pentru studenti “Work&Travel”, insa, spre fericirea mea nu am mai ajuns acolo. In schimb, banii destinati pentru State au fost directionati spre un job de ajutor de ospatar in Grecia, Insula Creta, Malia la Hotelul Malia Bay Hotel&Bungalows **** Jobul s-a dovedit a fi oribil la inceput, insa pofta vine mancand si a inceput sa imi placa! Nicicum pentru jobul in sine, ci pentru oamenii cu care am lucrat, atat studentii romani si unguri veniti prin acelasi program, cat si colegii de diferite nationalitati pe care i-am cunoscut in hotel. Ce-i drept, Directorul General, Maitre si Head Receptionist erau groaznic de severi!

CRISTINA & MONICA! Impreuna, am format The Powerpuff Girls J Glumesc!

In Malia le gaseai toate!

15th OF JUNE – 01st of OCTOBER 2011: THE CRAZIEST SUMMER I’VE EVER HAD!

I swear I do not even know where to start! With the fact that it was the most intense experience of them all?! That it was the beginning of the maturity? That I met all those different nationalities? That I switched from the regret of being there to the regret that I left? That I got out of all those horrible situations, in which I never thought I would get into? That I met some beautiful people and we became friends for a long time? That I visited all that I could and I met Greek people with the good and the bad? That I used to party 5 nights in a row, out of 7 per week? That the atmosphere was insane that I didn’t care that the next day my shift would start at 7 o’clock? That I haven’t spent a dime on a drink while I was there?

TOUGH ONE!

Crete Island is known for the complex history, those places “talk” even today about those good old times. Being the biggest Greek island, I admit that I got lucky to visit it all, for 3 and a half month (the beautiful places described on those travel agency’s flyers, but also the darkest parts of it).

ATHENS, MALIA, CHANIA, RETHYMNO, IRAKLIO, HERSONISSOS, AGIOS NIKOLAOS, IERAPETRA, SITIA…you name it! Been there, done that! (foto Crete Travel). I wore only casual clothing: dozens of casual and sexy dresses, a bunch of skirts and casual t-shirts with statement jewelry, roman sandals during the day and stiletto during the night. I had with me 7 different swimsuits and a chic hat to protect me from the sun.

#myfavourites: RETHYMNO (is a beautiful city and I wouldn’t hesitate in moving there anytime), HERSONISSOS (the perfect beach, the vibrant night clubs, especially NEW YORK DAY&NIGHT BEACH CLUB and STAR BEACH), HERAKLION (the port where I had my heart broken when I got in the ferry at the departure), ATHENS (the port where I felt fear for the unknown at the arrival), CHANIA (the port + the old city – #beautiful, the high prices at their taverns – #notthatmuch), AGIOS NIKOLAOS (the perfect day spent with my friend, Monica, for her birthday), IERAPETRA & SITIA (beautiful views). I named all of them, right?

Initially, I applied for a job in USA due to the “Work&Travel” Program for Students, but, I never got there. In exchange, the money meant to be for the States, got redirected for a job as waiter’s assistant in Greece, Crete Island, at Malia Bay Hotel&Bungalows **** At the beginning, the job sucked big time, but, in time, I got used to it! Not for the job description, but for the people I worked with: the foreign students (romanian & hungarian) and the colleagues from all over the world. The General Manager, the Maitre and the Head Receptionist were insanely severe! Like the stupidest severity of them all!

Even though the agency told me that there will be someone at the airport to claim me, it wasn’t the case! Therefore, I called at the reception and I told them that I was in the port already, even though I had very few cents on my phone! They had no idea who was I and what I was supposed to do there. Finally, the things have cleared up and they sent a Greek bus driver to take me to the hotel. He couldn’t speak English, but the only thing could say was: “Adriana? Malia Bay?” Yes, please!

After I was told the job description, they checked me into a room with 4 beds and a bathroom, quite nice, across the hotel. That night I met the other colleagues: the animation team (5 italians), the sous-chef (Janos-Romania), the other waiter’s assistants (David-Romania, Tomas-Lithuania), the Greek staff from the kitchen (Hello, Panagiotis! Hello, my little friend!) and… CRISTINA & MONICA! Together, we were The Powerpuff Girls J I’m kidding! We lived under the same roof, we shared so many memories, we had the same job and the same complaints regarding the staff and the restaurant, that we got close enough and we became best friends ever since! This is one of the best things that I will always be grateful for, after the experience in Greece.

Being joyful all the time, an Italian, English and French speaker, the General Manager decided to promote me for a whole month as bar assistant at the Pool Bar. There, I met Zacharias (Greece), Nikos (Greece) and Jane (Germania) who taught me to fix cocktails, how to get the tourists to spend money on real drinks rather than the ones at the all-inclusive (OUZO, RAKI, white wine, red wine).

MALIA is the “Ibiza of Greece”. The center of the town becomes alive at night, due to the clubs, the taverns opened all day and all night, the pool bars, the souvenir shops, the clothing shops and other stuff. You would find absolutely anything on these streets, anything! If you wanted to get a tattoo at 5 AM, if you wanted a Tiffany&Co watch (false, of course), if you wanted to buy eccentric souvenirs, cookies, pita gyros straight from the source, to rent a scooter, to relax into a hammock, to eat a cheeseburger at McDonald’s in the middle of the night, then to go back into the club (Apollo, Malibu, Safari Club, Bar One, Cloud 9, Zig Zag, Candy Club and many more), if you wanted a foam party, if you wanted a RnB Club, to dance on a commercial music or Rock music, if you wanted them combined, or just to watch a sports game with your mates drinking beer…you name it! In Malia you would find them all! Together and separately!

The experience in Greece was wonderful from all points of view! I experienced the seen and the unseen of the all-inclusive, I’ve met all kinds of people (the tourists and the staff), I’ve learnt how to deal with difficult situations at work, I took part of the hard work of the staff to deliver the 4 star hotel that Malia Bay Hotel&Bungalows is meant to be.

I recommend the experience to all the students that have access to the Work&Travel Program!
